Supporting the First Amendment and Local Programming

Gene and Ginger Dietzman

When it came time for Ginger and Gene Dietzman to choose beneficiaries for their trust, OPB was a natural choice. Gene, a lifelong Oregonian, has been a longtime consumer of OPB programming. Ginger, who comes from a family of newspaper owners, became a fan of OPB’s investigative reporting when she relocated to Oregon in 2007. Firm believers in freedom of the press, the Dietzmans made their gift, “specific to First Amendment work and local Oregon programming.”

In additional to OPB’s print and radio journalism, the couple enjoys the station’s television programming. Episodes of Oregon Field Guide and Oregon Experience have piqued Ginger and Gene’s interest in the state’s history and natural wonders, prompting them to visit such sites as the Painted Hills, Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site, Smith Rock and Hells Canyon.

The Dietzmans hope their gift inspires others to give:

“We are particularly impressed with the operation of OPB and how they have worked so hard to make it such a stable entity for a nonprofit. We felt very good about jumping on their ship. I can’t state enough the importance of the First Amendment and freedom of the press and what a good job they are doing.”
